For adventurous outdoor play, these simple, functional overalls keep children dry and comfortable, whatever the weather.  Designed to be pulled on over clothing, Rainhaven Overalls let kids be kids, freely immersing themselves in nature play, with no worries about keeping clothes clean.

The pattern includes optional features such as elastic stirrups to keep pant legs in place, a chest pocket, and knee and seat patches that can be combined to make them your own.

Sew them in waterproof fabric for rainy day adventures, or in a sturdy fabric such as canvas for every-day rough-and-tumble play.

Skill level: adventurous beginner

The Rainhaven Overalls feature:

  • Shaped bib for comfort and great coverage
  • Adjustable shoulder straps with buckles
  • Knee and seat patches for extra durability (optional)
  • Bib pocket (optional)
  • Stirrups to hold pant legs in place (optional)
  • Side snaps for trim fit (optional)
  • Seam-sealing tutorial

Make old things new again! Twig & Tale patterns pair wonderfully with upcycled fabrics. Look to large raincoats to upcycle into smaller garments.  Re-use hardware such as buckles, toggles, sliders from old raingear or backpacks.

The Rain Haven Overalls are a well written pattern that helped me work with a new type of fabric, learn a new technique (seam sealing) and create a well-made and useful garment for my kids. I know that Lisa's patterns are sized in such away that my kids should get 2 years of wear before I get to make another pair. They are perfect for the March weather in New England when snow is melting and snow pants absorb too much water to be comfortable. My kids put them on and jumped in puddles on the first day they were finished. They love the stirrup option to keep the pant legs over the boot tops. I used a coated nylon and a waterproof coated polyester (both Nike Storm Fit deadstock) and found the polyester easier to work with.

Awesome

I had been looking for such a suit for a while and than I found this one. It is awesome! The instructions are very clear, there’s a lot more info to find on the website and the fit is also really good. My daughter loves the suit and had so much fun in the snow! My son was already jealous I didn’t make him one (bought the kids pattern which he had outgrown). I highly recommend this pattern.
