Make old things new again! Twig & Tale patterns pair wonderfully with recycled fabrics. Look to wool blankets, shrunken sweaters, suiting weight wool skirts or trousers and leather/corduroy garments for inspiration.
Easy pattern to follow. Instructions are clear.
clear instructions and easy to assemble pattern pieces. I wish i was better at embroidery to do these cuties justice!!
I love these little slippers. I made some ladybirds for a 5yr old gift, and her face was a picture of delight when she saw them! They are comfy and easy to put on and off. Great directions (it was my first attempt at footwear). I love how you can use up all sorts of cosy scraps, and upcycle! I'm already planning the next ones. Thanks for a great pattern
The pattern is well written and comes together easily. I modified the pattern to use as boot covers for a costume for my son. He loved them.
This is a well written pattern with so many options! I am partial to the fox and dragon, but all of the creatures are adorable. Instructions are easy to follow.

Exterior: This pattern is suitable for most medium weight woven fabrics. Soft wool blends (my favourite), denim, cord and other fabrics with reasonable structure will work well. Softer fabrics such as fleece will create a slouchier boot.
You can use recycled felted sweaters, which do make a lovely cosy boot - although you may need to go up a size or two to accommodate the thicker fabric. Instructions on how to felt a sweater are at the bottom this page.
Lining: Light weight cotton, flannel or other soft breathable fabric.
Insoles: Wool from felted woolen sweater or blanket.
Soles: Suede, leather, corduroy, denim, or similar sturdy fabric. For sizes intended for a walking baby/toddler, please be aware that fabric soles can be slippery, so applying a non-slip treatment is recommended.
Ears/Antennae/Horns: Non-fray fabric such as felt, fleece, suede or leather.
To start with, you need to source a sweater made from natural animal fibres, such as wool, mohair, cashmere, angora, or merino wool. Check that the percentage of natural fibres is at least 80% - otherwise it will not felt. “Superwash” or "machine washable" wools will not felt.
Wash your sweater on a hot wash using a regular laundry powder. Do not use a gentle wool cycle or wool detergent, as they are designed NOT to felt your wool! You may need to put it through a hot wash twice. If you have a dryer, that will also help felt your sweater. Use the hottest setting.
