About

Hi, my name is Lisa, and I love to create beautiful winter clothing and doll patterns in my tree-house studio hidden within the magical New Zealand rainforest.  I draft my own clothing patterns, capturing the essence of my favourite childhood storybooks. With a love affair for natural fabrics and exquisite stitching, my signature style is warm, enduring and classic with a hint of woodland storybook whimsy.  Recycling old garments with delicious fabrics is a passion and all of my patterns can be made from recycled materials.

Creating something beautiful from my hands was once a dream which has slowly become true. I learnt to hand embroider as part of a painstaking recovery from a devastating crush injury to my right hand in 2008.  Year upon year, stitch by stitch, needlework has, and continues to be, a delightful yet important part of my recovery. It has been an amazing, terrifying, joyous, painful yet inspirational journey.

Big Little came into being in 2011, selling the little things I so carefully and lovingly crafted during "hand therapy".  The joy of creating something so beautiful from such a mangled body part was truly wonderful.  Orders came faster than I could possibly produce by myself and combined with our growing little family, the idea of selling patterns for home sewers to create their own special things evolved...

These days I look after our two delightful children, and work from my treehouse studio designing clothing and doll patterns.  I love to craft, find yummy and pretty things in our garden and spend time wandering through the imaginary worlds of our little girl.  You can read more on my blog Big Little Tales.

Thanks for your support of my work.  It means so much!
