What’s better than one pair of Pixie Shorts? Two, of course - especially when they are two in one! Today Kelly from Sew A Little Seam is going to show you a really easy way you can line your Pixie Shorts and make them reversible. It takes only a few extra steps!
To start, cut out the pattern pieces from your main fabric according to the pattern instructions. Then from your second (lining) fabric, cut out another set of fronts and backs, as well as a set of pocket pieces if you want pockets on both sides.
Follow steps 1-12 for both your main fabric and your lining fabric. Then place the lining inside the main shorts with the wrong sides facing each other. Make sure you match front with front and back with back. Pin the layers together, lining up all corresponding seams.
Follow the instructions for creating the cuffs. When you get to step 15 for gathering the leg, sew your gathering stitch through both layers. Repeat on the other leg. From here on out, treat it all as one layer while adding the cuff.
Attach the cuff to the main fabric first and then fold it over to the lining side and pin or baste it in place. Go slowly as you topstitch the cuff, carefully feeling both layers as you go to make sure you have a nice even line on both sides.
This is what the inside of your cuff will look like after it is stitched on.
Follow the instructions for creating the waistband. When you get to step 23, sew your gathering stitch through both front layers. Also baste the two body layers together at the back edge and remove the pins. Follow the rest of the instructions for adding the waistband, again treating both body layers as one.
Your waistband will cover both the main fabric and the lining fabric.
And that’s it! Now you have a great pair of reversible Pixie Shorts!
