Ready for another adventure
We will be entering a season of cooler weather and I had really been wanting to make a quilted jacket. I had thrifted this beautiful quilt that needed some love poured into it and then was selected for this sew and share! When working with this quilt I couldn’t help but wonder all it has seen throughout its life as a quilt and all the adventures it will soon go on in its new life! This pattern is well written and walks you through every step to get a beautiful outcome.

Fun Learning Project - Beautiful End Result
I have never quilted before, but when I saw the tester call for Loft I immediately wanted to try it out... this style of jacket is so perfect where I am with fluctuating weather, and looked like a great opportunity to learn some new skills. I was really impressed with the clarity of the directions and guidance on "crumb quilting," which was how I chose to approach this project as a total beginner! There are a variety of ways to finish, add details, and even methods of creating/sourcing the base materials, which made it a really versatile pattern with lots of options. I love how mine turned out, and I can't wait until the weather cools off so that I can wear it!

Loft is Simple yet Mighty
Confession time I am a quilted jacket pattern collector- over the last few years I have bought many patterns but never made them as each pattern didn't contain quite the right set of options and life is too short to bother to try and combine my prefrred features across pattern brands.
So when Loft was in the pipeline my biggest delight was that it gave OPTIONS! I could choose to line or not, bind seams or not, have a collar or not, go for a boxy short jacket or a longer one and select my pocket shape- oh and I could use prequilted fabric or do my own quilting. At last I could play around within one pattern and make my dream jacket.
Initially I used prequilted fabric to work out my options then I was ready for some experimenting- this is one of the joys of the pattern you can make it tell a very personal story.
Loft is essentially very simple - 5 main pieces and then collar and pockets of your choosing. The instructions for making are clearly explained and if you go the prequilted route you can have your jacket in use in no time.
Quilting your own fabric does take more time but it is very satisfying to work through the processes outlined and use up your scraps.
This jacket is inspired by a Mondrian painting- I used left over piecesof linen to make my cloth- and if like me you machine your scraps together and machine quilt it does speed up the process.
