Great options and instructions to help you create a shirt and test new techniques. This first one was made for a book week costume (pictured) with the collar omitted, but this pattern will be well used, as it’s perfect for sun protection, but still cool and breezy - a good choice for the Aussie outback. I am excited to make many more.
As always, the instructions were detailed and easy to follow. The wings are gorgeous and so beautifully finished and are being thoroughly enjoyed by the little one who received them. I’ll be making more when I recover from the trauma of turning them out :)
Absolutly love this pattern! Such a lovely easy pattern to follow, the instructions were clear and easy to follow, making it a very satisfying sew. I sewed a fully lined version with long sleeves and the construction comes together beautifully. The ease of creating such a lovely dress is impressive, considering I am sewing thirty of these dresses for an upcoming festival and am only an intermediate sewer.
Not having sewn since my children were small, now I have grandchildren I’ve been inspired to get back into it. I chose this pattern for its ease of putting on & taking off by my 18 month, & 4 & 4.5 year old grandsons. I adorned the right side of the chest with a little embroidered platypus as I’d previously made an embroidered dress for my little granddaughters in the same pale green linen fabric. Embroidery is my newest hobby. Well, I certainly learnt some new sewing techniques using this amazing pattern. Things I’d never done before like French seams, & hidden seams. Seams that are done by pulling them through armholes (yikes) & that really tricky section - clearly announced in your pattern written instructions- the following section is the most challenging….. you were right. But yes it was worth it. If like me you’re kind of new back to sewing, you will need to read the instructions in this section many many many times, & watch the video tutorial (on a laptop..phone was too small to see the detail), also many times. I almost gave up & took shortcuts but I slept on it & now I’m ready to start my next. My advice is to follow every single instruction. Anyway my prototype, pictured here, while not perfect, I’m delighted with & can’t wait to start my next one today.
fantastic pattern, very detailed. useful hints and tips. I really liked the information about monarch butterflies too - I was learning as I made. I opted to use an upcycled wool blanket, and plain cotton for mine. I didn't include the white spots around the edges of the wings - due to spots on the cotton.
