Just WOW!

This pattern is so precise, and quick!!! I have made 3 reversible pixie hood capes from it in as many hours (not counting the cutting out). I used plaid fleece for one side, and a coordinating fleece for the other. I even matched the pattern of the plaid!!! My next traveller cape will be an animal version...I can't wait!!! A work associate wants me to make a couple of capes for her grandchildren. This pattern is a winner all the way around!!!

Love this cape, made a dino cape with shoft shell waterproof exterior and fleece interior, perfect for the car seat and for a rainy spring. I can't wait to make another for my cousins daughter.

Sew Cute

I bought this cape pattern and the animal add-on to make a Bookweek costume. The cape is quite easy to make with easy to follow instructions and multiple sizes. I will get plenty of use out of this one. I did find when I made the bigger size I underestimated the amount of outer fabric I needed as it wasn't quite wide enough to get both front and back out of it. Would love to see a hack to put armholes in the front as this is one thing my kids would have liked. The hidden pocket was definitely a hit though!

The baby sizes are intended for photography purposes and must be used with close adult supervision. They are more suitable for a baby who is capable of sitting.  The baby sizes have a very generous hood, as it is intended that a beanie or other close-fitting head covering will be worn underneath if cold.  Tails are not for baby sizes.

Suggested fabrics

Exterior:  I like to use wool blends, but most woven fabrics with a reasonable drape will work well, including fleece and WindPro fleece, velvet, soft denim, or corduroy.  Lightweight cottons or linens are suitable for a spring or summer cape.  It can also be made in waterproof fabric (PUL, laminated cotton, coated nylon, etc.) as a rain cape.

Lining: I like to use cotton, linen or other breathable fabric, but you can use regular lining fabric if you wish.

Fabric requirements

You will need the amounts listed in the chart below (44” or 115cm wide fabric)  for both lining fabric and exterior fabric for the Capelet and Classic lengths.  You may need more if matching plaids/checks or if you have a directional fabric. If adding a tail, factor in another 1/4 yard or metre.  It is intended that your choice of ears can be cut from the scraps - however, if making a bunny, doggie or giraffe, you may need to factor in a tiny bit more fabric.

To make the Cloak length in the larger sizes you will need a minimum fabric width of 54” or 135cm.  If you wish to lengthen the cloak length further, you will require even wider fabric!
