We are so pleased to introduce our new Nature Baskets, a collection of playthings inspired by the landscapes we love: lush, leafy green forests, gently rolling ocean waves, and the wide open sky.
These baskets are exactly the sort of plaything we like best - open ended, creative, and sure to inspire all manner of imaginative play. Capture a bit of nature's magic and sew one of these beautiful, heirloom-quality baskets that will be treasured for years to come.
The Nature Basket collection includes three styles of soft-structured basket with a snap-on hood attachment. The basket and hood are fully-lined for a beautiful finish, and have sturdy carry handles. The styles are:
- Forest Basket - Features leaf-inspired shapes and quilting lines, and a peaked hood constructed from two large leaf shapes.
- Ocean Basket - Features a beautiful stylized wave quilting pattern and a round hood shape.
- Cloud Basket - Features puffs of cloud-inspired quilting and a round hood with optional rainbow appliqué.
The pattern for each style includes four sizes, to accommodate dollies and lovies from 9-18". Also included is a pattern for a simple blanket and pillow.
We’ve also included a bonus hood base piece in the pattern, which snaps to the hood piece and allows it to be used on its own as a standalone play structure. The hood makes a charming little play scene, and we think it would be a lovely addition to a Waldorf-inspired nature table.
Though we’ve designed these baskets primarily as playthings, they do also make wonderful little storage baskets for around the house. Perfect for storing yarn or toting along a hand-sewing project on the go. There are so many ways to use these baskets. Please note: These baskets are not for babies.
The patterns in the Nature Basket collection include include a clear, detailed tutorial that includes photos, videos, and helpful tips to guide you through the entire project. The layered pdf print file includes both A4 and A0 formats, for home or shop printing.
The Nature Basket patterns are quite detailed - the construction method will feel familiar for those who have sewn patterns from the Twig + Tale wing collection. They involve a fair number of steps, however there are no particularly difficult sewing skills involved. Advanced beginners who have some projects under their belts and feel comfortable tackling some thick, layered areas and sewing around curves should be able to sew baskets. We've made sure that the tutorials and videos cover every step of the process.
We look forward to seeing all of your creative interpretations of the Nature Baskets. Fabric selections, appliqué, embroidery, trims - there are so many ways to customize them. Above all, we hope that your little ones enjoy playing with their baskets - tucking in dollies, setting up play scenes, or toting around favourite lovies and toys.
Did you know there is a Twig + Tale Facebook group? It's a friendly sewing community where you can ask questions, look for inspiration, and of course share photos of your creations. We hope to see you there.
