Other Supplies & Notions
  • Spool of coordinating thread
  • Elastic (elasticated security band option only) - 8-14" (20-35cm) of 3/8" (1cm) to 7/8" (2cm) knitted elastic, or similar midweight elastic
  • Batting/Wadding
  • Hardware (optional). Either x2 three bar sliders, or x1 two bar and x1 three bar sliders. A D-ring can also be used in place of the x1 two bar slider. Use 2" (5cm) hardware for the Wide Strap + Loop. Use 1.5" (38mm) hardware for the narrower Strap + Loop.
  • Interfacing (optional) to reinforce and add more structure. A fusible woven or knit interfacing is the most durable option.
Views
  • Two styles: portrait and landscape, featuring different leaf shapes
  • Two sizes: small and large
  • Two widths of strap (wear over shoulder or cross-body)
  • Internal pocket
  • Elastic or darted security band
  • Knotted strap or adjustable hardware

Make old things new again! Twig & Tale patterns pair wonderfully with recycled fabrics. Linen trousers and shirts make a lovely lightweight satchel. Worn corduroy, cotton twill, or chambray trousers can be pieced to make a satchel - try re-using pockets too for a neat detail.

    Love it

I made my bag out of my late dad's oilskin pants, think it came out ok. My siblings are pleased I could make something out of them

    One won't be enough.

This bag is such an enjoyable make. Endless possibilities for fabric combinations , along side the options of large or small, portrait or landscape bags
I made mine with the contrast flap, yet more possibilities if you count that option!
I love that it is as beautiful inside as out and that you don't need any special hardware.
Many more of these bags are planned.

    Whimsy + Practicality

I tested this pattern with no previous bag-making experience and loved every step; which is good, because I have a dozen niblings in queue for a leaf bag of their own! T+T patterns are sheer joy.

Fantastic Instructions for a charming Satchel

I tested this pattern and despite not being a fan of bag making, I found the instructions straight forward but more importantly the construction was painless with no issues using any fabric from waxed cotton to thick boiled wool.

A satchel that makes me feel like a hobbit

This satchel feels like home. I have never had a bag that I truly felt suited me, my personality and style, as well as this one does. I've already made two versions, and I am dreaming of a third. As always, the instructions are fantastic with both text, images and video, which guide you through even the tricky parts with ease. Cannot recommend this pattern enough.

    So fun to make

I have made two so far, now all of my kids want one. These bags are sooo adorable and so practical to use! I enjoyed sewing these and will keep them in mind for future gifts for people. Easy to follow pattern and video.

    Perfect for everyday use

I have been wearing my large landscape leaf satchel for the last month and it can really hold all I need for the day, that includes my 2L waterbottle and lunchbox, phone, purse and what ever else a lady needs in her bag. The small portraite one fits perfectly for my son, so he can carry his own stuff on trips
The instructions are as always fantastic making the satchels come together easy peasy - even if you have never made a purse/bag before you can make this <3
