love this pattern!

I've made 4 Forester Jackets now and absolutely love his pattern. I even purchased the men's pattern and made one for my partner too. The size does run very large so best to check finished measurements if you'd like it more fitted. First time I made them for both my partner and me they ended up 3 sizes too big!
The photo is my latest make in Pinwale Corduroy lined with Minky Fleece. This combination is very warm but lightweight and works well in the Forester Jacket. I've also made them in softshell fleece lined with Minky fleece as well as wool lined with thin polar fleece. My favourite is lining is minky fleece for warmth!

Beautiful and easy to make

I have been looking for a beautiful field coat to make for ages! I was delighted when I stumbled across this pattern after buying the Rainhaven pattern to make my daughter.

It's a beautiful coat, easy to follow instructions and with the added advantage of the Nestledown add on - which I also made for the arrival of my second daughter.

I absolutely adore my coat and I get so many compliments on it.

My first coat

Instructions and videos are clear and easy to follow.
Lining pocket add-on and Baby carry panel add-on worked well for me too.
Next time I make the coat, I'd try to fit it better around the waist.

The pattern is detailed and precise. I would like it to have a longer variant and the sizes to be ready-made.

Forester Coat

I haven’t made the coat yet but if it is anything like your other patterns, I know I will love it. I just bought some wool stretch twill and this is the fabric I will be using.

I have not made this pattern yet however I have read through the instructions. I am an experienced novice and can see many of these coats in my future. Thank you for your wonderful patterns

Impressed to say the least.

I’ve made the Trailblazer vest and the Forester coat. I have been a sewer for Over 50 years and i was very impressed with the 2 patterns and with the instructions which were super easy to follow. I love both my vest and my coat which fit great. I am a Canadian and will recommend to all my friends.

easy to follow and versatile

I made two versions of this jacket, one for my mom and another for my sister.
I used softshell for the exterior and no lining except for the hoodie.
I like that it is indicated where to add fabric in case of needing to extend the coat. In my case, the sleeves were a bit tight, next round I'll make sure to add extra fabric at the end of the sleeve.
To both of them I adjusted the waist and hips according to their measures. I think that if the pattern had marks for bust, hip and waist would help, specially for the side panels.
The overall finish looked good. The back resulted a bit bulky on one of the coats so I made some pins in the back "on the fly"

I loved the versatility of the pattern with the options for detachable hoodie, back belt and so on; well, I think the options are hoodie on/off; I made it detchable by adding buttonholes to the hoodie and button on the back of the collar, I would recommend to add instructions for no lining since I had to improvise for some finishes.

Great

Easy to follow instructions. It was my first attempt at adult outerwear and the written instructions along with the video clips made things very clear. I made up a version where the outer layer was wool and the lining was quilted (for winter in Canada) and it is serving me wonderful. I am planning on sewing up another one for the spring so you know I loved the pattern.

My only critque was that it is a little loose over the hips (usually I have to grade up to a larger size in the hips so I was surprised by this...) and that lets cold air in the bottom. I think this was more an issue with me being hesitant to fit the pattern too much since I was going for a warm winter jacket but next time I'll be more aggressive with the fitting side of things.

Good instructions, lining not professional

Good things first: Love the back! Incredibly good instructions (easy to follow, good pics, helpful even for beginners) - might be the best instruction ever!
Some complaints: The overall fit is...okay. The pockets just won't lie flat, no mattter what I did. The shoulder fits well, the bust is good and the rest is more or less shapeless. I wish for more fitting instructions for the waist. The pockets are not graded and therefore started to bunch (I made one of the smaller sizes, I guess it's less of an issue with bigger sizes). The instructions for the zipper should really make the interfacing on the egde non-optional (I learned my lesson the seam-ripper way).
Major complaint: The lining is basically sewn in on all sides, even the bottom. This makes for a less than professional finish and I'm sure the lining will soon sag and hang out and I will have to figure out how to fix it. There is a reason the lining is usually shorter on the bottom edge of a coat with a extra fold of lining to allow for movement. If I had noticed that before cutting (this was my first outerwear project) I would have done this differently! Maybe make an optional "professional finish" section?
