These beautiful play wings look as delicate as a butterfly's, yet are made to last and ready to keep up with your imagination.
These soft, play-friendly wings can be sewn on your regular home sewing machine with no wires or boning required.
Not just for children - all ages from toddlers to adults can enjoy some every-day magic!
Skill Level: Intermediate
Video Support: A full course of clear, concise videos accompany this pattern, alongside a comprehensive written and photographed instruction booklet.
Also included is a free Monarch Wings colouring/design page.
Sizing + Supplies
Sizes Available: Small (1 to 3-4 years) and Medium (5-10 years). Size Large will fit ages 10+ to adults.
Supplies: This pattern is designed for non-stretch woven fabrics only - we recommend using quilting cotton or fabric of a similar weight or lighter weight.
- Interfacing: Formfuse 1600f or Pellon 809 Decor Bond is recommended
- Batting: Anything from 5mm - 20mm is suitable
- Needle: A strong sewing machine needle such as a super sharp size 90 or denim (jeans) needle
- Elastic: 3/4" (2cm) wide

I GAVE MY MOTHER THE PATTERN TO MAKE THE BUTTERFLY WINGS FOR MY DAUGHTER ON HER BIRTHDAY. THEY WERE A SUCCESS
The finished wings feel so sturdy and high quality. I'm really pleased with how they turned out. We used an orange with gold highlights in it and it is so beautiful.
4 stars instead of 5 because the pattern was missing a few instructions I had to figure out on my own. I also really would have appreciated knowing how much fabric to buy, instead of using up scraps.

I made these wings for my daughter for Halloween this year and I’m so pleased with how they turned out. The pattern was incredibly detailed and made what seemed daunting quite enjoyable. I’ll surely be making more in the future.
Every year, I make my daughter a Halloween hoodie that she can wear year round. The butterfly was perfect to adapt for this year's costume. It works well with knits.
These little wings are the absolute bomb. I love the versatility with other butterfly markings too. I have "frankensteined" Birdwing and Ulysses butterflies. A little more attention needed as the quilting steps are a little different to the other 3 wings.
Great pattern, clear easy to follow instructions and the video tutorial makes them a pleasure to make my 3 year old grandson loved them
I love this pattern. It is beautiful, imaginative and playfull.
It's great for kids to play with it and to stimulate their imagination.
It is also a great decoration element at home.
I loved making the new Monarch play wings! I decided to make them in a soft, sensory-friendly velvet and a textured cotton and sparkly vinyl for the appliqué. The whole thing came together very smoothly and while there are some technical aspects that need some precision, overall it was a lovely project to work on. I would highly recommend trying the Monarch wings and adding your own twist to suit your child's preferences and needs.
This is my first ever pair of wings, and let me say... These little wings were SO enjoyable to make. Between the pattern, blog resources and "guides" available on the Facebook platform it is easy to find answers to any questions you may have and feels like you're sewing along with friends. They walk you through every step to achieving a beautiful, durable finish that I'm certain will hold up to hours and hours of imaginative play. My kids love these things and I can't wait to make more for them and as gifts. It is one of my favourite things I've made, and one of the most enjoyable patterns I've ever followed.
