Pocket Pack 1 - Kea Collection
Digital Pattern
A collection of eleven unique patch pockets to add extra style and function to your garments.
With plenty of options for practical and playful pockets, mix, match and experiment with different combinations.
Named after the Kea, a cheeky New Zealand alpine parrot, known for its intelligence and curiosity, which often leads them to "collect" small items from humans (in one famous case, a tourist's passport!).
Since every good collector needs a place to stash their treasure, the name seemed a perfect fit for our pocket pack. We hope the Kea would approve.
Compatibility: Use them anywhere you'd like to add a patch pocket. Change up the look of coats, vests, tops, pants, skirts, bags... the possibilities are endless!
Skill Level: Beginner to intermediate
Tutorial: Comprehensive written and photographed instructions are included for all pocket types. A bonus video is included for the Zippered Pocket (the most technical pocket construction).

Supplies
Suggested Fabrics:
Exterior: Medium to heavy weight woven fabric with structure and no/little stretch: eg. wool coating, twill, denim, velvet, canvas, soft shell, oilcloth.
Lining: Lightweight woven fabrics with no stretch: Tencel, Bemberg, suit lining, satin, sateen, silk cotton, viscose rayon. Fuzzy, thick linings such as minky or sherpa are not recommended.
Fabric Requirements:
Scraps! If you are sewing a garment and switching out the pockets, it is likely that no additional fabric will be needed.
If purchasing contrast fabric, up to 12" (30cm) of both exterior and lining.
Supplies + Notions:
- Spool of coordinating thread
- Buttons or snaps for pockets with flaps - optional
- Zipper for zippered pocket
Make old things new again! Twig & Tale patterns pair wonderfully with recycled fabrics. Look to gently-used denim, corduroy or wool pants. Cotton and linen shirts make lovely pocket linings, and buttons and trim can be repurposed too.
