Ever wondered how to achieve a truly bespoke, tailor-quality look to your hand made garments? It’s all about the finishes - and today, we’re going to share with you a technique that allows you to close and hem your garments almost invisibly. Sounds a bit like magic, right? It feels like it sometimes, too - but it’s really just a bit of love, and some slow sewing.
The Ladder Stitch (aka Invisible Stitch or Slip Stitch) can be an invaluable skill in any sewist's repertoire. Versatile and discreet, it's a lovely way to close up turning holes, attach decorative elements like animal features, and repair popped seams quickly and easily, all without any visible stitches showing.
Its close cousin, the Blind Hem Stitch, uses similar stitching techniques to complete a subtly elegant hem on garments where you don’t want visible topstitching to mar the smooth finish of your garment.
So, come have a sit with me in my sewing studio as I share just how simple and achievable these techniques are - no magic wand required.
See, wasn't that easy? I promise you can do it too - just give it a go! You'll find it so helpful on nearly all your Twig + Tale projects, from Satchels and Hip Pouches, to Lorien Lace-Up Skirts, Wayfarer Shoes, Pathfinder Vests and more!
