Tricky re-entry to sewing

Not having sewn since my children were small, now I have grandchildren I’ve been inspired to get back into it. I chose this pattern for its ease of putting on & taking off by my 18 month, & 4 & 4.5 year old grandsons. I adorned the right side of the chest with a little embroidered platypus as I’d previously made an embroidered dress for my little granddaughters in the same pale green linen fabric. Embroidery is my newest hobby. Well, I certainly learnt some new sewing techniques using this amazing pattern. Things I’d never done before like French seams, & hidden seams. Seams that are done by pulling them through armholes (yikes) & that really tricky section - clearly announced in your pattern written instructions- the following section is the most challenging….. you were right. But yes it was worth it. If like me you’re kind of new back to sewing, you will need to read the instructions in this section many many many times, & watch the video tutorial (on a laptop..phone was too small to see the detail), also many times. I almost gave up & took shortcuts but I slept on it & now I’m ready to start my next. My advice is to follow every single instruction. Anyway my prototype, pictured here, while not perfect, I’m delighted with & can’t wait to start my next one today.

Wonderful pattern

Absolutely amazing patterns as always, I learnt so much from the detailed tutorial, both video and written. Having tried new techniques I'm now confident i could use them again on other projects. The shirt itself turned out so comfortable and is already a favourite!

A nice shirt with a lovely twist

Boys clothes can be so boring, but not this one. So fancy with the french seams all over, the inside as beautiful as the outside without the need for a serger.

The only tricky part was the twist at the front but the video tutorial helped me get through it easily.

I also love the button on the sleeves to get it shorter.

A worthy challenge

If you're looking for a sensory friendly (hidden seams) top for children this is the one. It was the most challenging shirt I've made to date but it was worth it for this style. My son does have some sensory adversions when it comes to shirt seams and was happy to wear this shirt without issues. I made a long and short sleeves shirt out of small scraps of special Babywearing wrap fabric.
