First pattern ordered from Twig&tale and will not be the last. Instructions easy to follow and a great video to help as well. Not finished yet but what I've done so far is really looking good.
Absolutely amazing patterns as always, I learnt so much from the detailed tutorial, both video and written. Having tried new techniques I'm now confident i could use them again on other projects. The shirt itself turned out so comfortable and is already a favourite!
I received this pattern gratis as part of the Sew and Show team. The opinions I am sharing are entirely mine :).
I have sewed quite a few Twig and Tale garments at this point and this one isn't the most challenging one that I have made (I think that was the Overland Cloak because of the sheer volume of material) but this one was close. I consider myself and intermediate sewist and think this is an intermediate pattern.
That being said, the instructions, and especially the video tutorial, definitely set you up for success and I was delighted with my finish. It is important to realize that this is a pattern that benefits from slow, meditative making.
As with all Twig and Tale patterns, there is an excellent fitting guide so that you can craft a garment that is exactly suited to your own shape. I am always amazed by how much detail is included in the fitting guides. It makes you feel super confident that your Ridgeway will be just right.
The photo and written instructions are very thorough. However, with the complexity of the process when attaching the facing of the two front pieces together makes the video class almost necessary. For me, it was definitely necessary. I am so grateful for the really detailed video and especially for the "closer look" portions. I successfully made a shirt for my son that both of us liked, even using a challenging linen fabric. And I added my favorite pocket from the Kea pocket pack and embroidery from the Sweet as Can Bee.
I would recommend this pattern for intermediate sewists. If you like it and want to make it, but haven't made many garments then I would recommend starting with The Breeze shirt. After you feel comfortable with that, this would be a good next option. Happy sewing!
With about 1 1/2 years of sewing experience under my belt, the Ridgeway Top really challenged my sewing skills. However, I was able to get excellent results because of the detailed pattern instructions and video instructions that come along with the pattern. This is a pattern that requires the sewist to slow down and take their time. From the enclosed seams to the button tabs, this is a pattern that you can sit down with and pour all your love into. If you are looking to up your sewing skills and make a special shirt for a special someone, check out the new Ridgeway top!
I was selected to join the Twig + Tale Sew + Show team, where I received a free copy of the pattern in exchange for sewing up a sample and sharing my experience.
