Easy, comfortable, wonderful

I really love this waistcoat, which is roomy enough for multiple layers to be worn underneath and really comfortable to wear. I used some leftover fleece for the inside collar and pockets, which I can highly recommend as it makes the waistcoat really warming and the fleecy pockets are just so snuggly. I added a patch pocket inside which will be very useful, I shall certainly be making more. The instructions are very good and easy to follow, and I love the summary of the steps that you can print out and follow (saves paper). Just brilliant!

Harris Tweed Trailblazer Vest

I loved this pattern! I graded out at the hips and used a double ended zip, the zip proved too heavy for the unreinforced collar and made it droop, so I added in some light batting to the collar which solved this. Lined with my own eco-printed silk dupion.

Summer Trailblazer

I have modified the pattern to make it suitable for our hot summer. I left out some of the features; no front pockets, no lining, no shoulder details and I used an overlocker/serger for all seams except the hems and zipper. Also, the only separating zipper I had was a two-way which was a little shorter than required so I just centered it between top and bottom. I am not usually very adventurous with patterns so I'm proud of my efforts and happy with the result. The shape of the vest is very flattering for me and I will be making others soon! Thank you Twig + Tale for another beautiful pattern!

Easy peasy comfy vest!

I had such a fun time with this vest. I actually ended up making 3! It was my first time installing a zipper and doing any garment with a lining. The videos embedded in the pattern were so incredibly helpful for this newbie. You can do this pattern!! Tons of pictures, step by step instructions. Very well written and supported pattern. Highly recommend! Plus, it’s adorable!!

Wonderful pattern and result

This year I looked everywhere for a midweight gilet that could be worn indoors and out and couldn’t find one. After digging out my sewing machine to make masks I realised I should make my own. The twig and tale patterns looked great, and I love the approach to upcycling so made a vest made of out of faux quilted upholstry fabric, fleece, and an old felted jersey for the pockets.

Great clear pattern and very happy with the result - a simple black vest which goes with everything and has been worn both days since I made it (even to the supermarket yesterday before the gap in the hem was handstitched...) Looking forward to making another in woodsy colours soon - perhaps after a meadow skirt and driftwood dress.

The pattern provided great instructions (for someone who hasn’t sewn their own clothes for over 20 years...)

Vest

Made the vest and love it. Instructions were good but I did get lost a couple of times. Resolved any issues I had by carefully rereading instruction. Suggest one reads through all the instruction before beginning. Liked the variation available for the pattern and the alteration instructions. Happy I bought this pattern and plan on making several more. Thank you Twig + Tale.

Fantastic pattern and excellent instructions with video tutorials

I absolutely loved making my first Trailblazer Vest. The written instructions were excellent and the video tutorials very helpful. It was my first time inserting a zip and the process was trouble free. Thanks Twig & Tale! The main fabric that I used for the was eco printed wool (I used sycamore leaves from my lane), the yoke natural colluded wool ant the lining eco printed silk etamine. Now I’m going to order reversible zips as ieth s little thought beforehand my next vest should be very easy to wear both ways out.
