Fabulous Pattern and absolute favourite

Made for my 2 year old great nephew who wants to wear his “fox coat” everyday.
Awesome pattern to work with, went together super easy, definitely a favourite for my future gift giving.
This vest is made from olive wool combo and 100% cotton lining using the size 2 pattern.
Luka is not petite but his mum thinks this will last next year as well.

Delightful to construct!

This pattern was so much fun to make. The instructions were easy to follow and even if you got stuck, the video tutorials were there to help! I’ll be making another vest soon.

Pathfinder vest pattern for children, easy to follow instructions, enhanced by photo guides. Very happy with the result.

Easy sew pattern with lots of options

Just finished my first pathfinder vest - apart from the buttons - for my 18mth old grandson who loves diggers. Flannelette for the outer and polar fleece for the lining apart from the pixie hood which has the flannelette as lining so that the pattern showed when the hood was off. I left off pockets because I wanted the fabric design to show. The elastic fasteners were a bit fiddly so I think I would use the extended front and do buttons and buttonholes next time I made it. Pattern was easy to follow with good instructions and it all came together beautifully. Loved the curved back option and it turned out perfectly. One suggestion/option to add to the pattern would be instructions on how to put in a front opening zipper - makes for a warmer vest. Thank you for yet another great design, and well thought out instructions/video.

Hello Carol-Anne!
Thank you for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review, including the photo - they are so helpful for customers as they browse the pattern shop!
We do have details for adding a zipper to the vest in the blog - have you checked it out? It's chock full of pattern-specific guides and tips, as well as other general sewing tips and more. You can read more about adding a zipper to the Pathfinder Vest and Pixie Pea Coat here:
https://www.twigandtale.com/blogs/twig-and-tale-blog/adding-a-zipper-to-a-wild-things-or-pixie-pea-coat
The example shows a coat, but the same basic method can work for the vest as well.
This article takes it a step further, to add a concealed zipper:

I hope you find these helpful - all the best to you!

Love it but it’s huge.

I did the pathfinder vest size 2. It’s a gift so no way to try it on for size. It’s huge. I’d say more like a 3-4 yr old size. I added the dragon elements and boots. Overall it’s a super easy pattern but the directions are scattered between animal coat, vest, dragon add on. I made the fairy wings and the directions were very good but I knew soft and stable and medium interfacing were a sure bet and they came out great.

Fully vested in this pattern!

What a whimsical yet functional pattern with so many fun options. I also appreciated the helpful video tutorial. I made one for my son and nephew, and am about to start on the adult version for myself. If I didn't have a job, I'd probably spend a ridiculous amount of time sewing different versions of these vests! This one uses a corduroy exterior, foxy cotton interior, and a fleece insulating layer that I sandwiched in between for warmth.

Everyone loves this vest!!

I fell in love with this vest and all of its options the first time I saw it. But, despite having been sewing for four decades, I’d never made a hood. And I loved the pixie hood especially.

So I bought the pattern and hoped for the best. The pattern itself was super quick and easy to assemble. I waffled on the hood, but the instructions were really good. I decided to go for it and I’m glad I did! I’ll definitely be making more for my little guy.
